Message Link Prefetching Issue

August 24th 2021 UTC

Howdy everyone, I’m working on the problem of email services/readers (Gmail) visiting links within the message to do whatever they do when they do that (scan the content for bad things, mostly - but also useful things like previewing the page in a popup). Link prefetching itself isn’t really a terrible thing, but it leads to perhaps bad side effects when it comes to links in email messages that do things, like subscribe or remove someone from a mailing list. Dada Mail has some protection for thi ...Continue Reading

Re: Redirect of web link to a phishing website

Happy to help! Mary Ann Mary Ann, Thank you. That is exactly what happened. When I examined the clickthrough links both in the tables dada_clickthrough_url and dada_clickthrough_url_log I found the malicious links. I removed all these records even though it seems that the links that were important were in dada_clickthrough_url The redirect_id was the number in the link and the url was the malicious link. Removing the Mysql records fixed the problem. Mary Ann with ...Continue Reading

So, a message sent by one of your subscribers in a discussion list had that malicious link. To prevent that, you may have to turn on moderation, and just double-check messages, before they’re sent to your entire list. Nothing else seemed… fishy about the message sent out? Was the message also then archived? Did your host run a scan on your site, and find the malicious link that way? In the future, I could add a feature that would not apply the Dada Mail redirect to certain URLs - like [1]bi ...Continue Reading

RE: Redirect of web link to a phishing website

Thanks, my hosting company does know about it which is why they shut my websites down. As mentioned, I looked for all redirects not in dadamail and could not find any. I also did searches on the dadamail databases and could not find anything. Shutting down dadamail by renaming the directory and mail.cgi to mail.xxx, eliminated the error. Now my sites were scanned and are clean. My website is back up but dadamail is not running. Obviously, I would like my discussion lists active again. I think the ...Continue Reading

Re: Redirect of web link to a phishing website

This is redirected using the clickthrough tracking feature of Dada and is not necessarily a hack. In PHPMyAdmin, go to the dada_clickthrough_urls table and find the redirect ID & message ID from the bad link and see what the URL is for it in the table. It could be that the website it was linking to got hacked or bought and redirected all links to something nefarious. If the link in the URL field is not what was originally linked in the mailing, you have a problem. Mary Ann You n ...Continue Reading

You need to report that to your hosting company. Someone did hack your site, your file space. I don’t think they necessarily hacked it through Dada Mail, though. It could have been any number of paths. Definitely report it, though. _______________________________________________ Bruce Scherzinger, HME HOA Webmaster * webmaster@PROTECTED From: [1]mrivner@PROTECTED mrivner@PROTECTED [Dada Mail Developers] Sent: Saturday, August 14, 2021 8:18 PM To: [2]Dada Mail Developers Subscriber S ...Continue Reading

Redirect of web link to a phishing website

August 15th 2021 UTC

Hi, I recently had my websites deactivated because a link on my site: [1]http://wbad.com/loc/list/dada/mail.cgi/r/listnm/195056493661/6b736baba9e8a49fbf129f (I changed the name of the domain (wbad.com) and name of the main directory (loc) and list name (listnm) ). But as you can see it called the mail.cgi file. It redirected to an external website [2]https://bitly.com/a/warning?hash= (I removed some of this redirection) Does anyone know what produced this. Does this indicate an attack ...Continue Reading

Rest API

July 19th 2021 UTC

Hi Dada Dev, I’m a fan of having a rest api implementation and am looking to leverage it for some automation. That said is there a way to implement a way to add users to mail lists via it without having unique public keys per list? Am I missing something? Thanks again for the great work! Best,Mike ...Continue Reading

Some on topic... topics include:

  • Positive Crits on the program (I like, "x", but, "y" needs some work - here's an idea on how to make this better...)
  • Bug/Error reports
  • Bug fixes
  • Request For Comments on any changes to the program
  • Help customizing Dada Mail for your own internal needs
  • Patches
  • Language Translations
  • Support Documentation/Doc editing, FAQ's, etc.
  • Discussion of any changes that you would like to be committed to the next version of Dada Mail -

At the moment, there aren't many people with CVS access for Dada Mail - if you would like CVS access, please first talk about the changes you propose and how it will affect the program. If the idea is sound and agreed upon, the change will be comitted. A good track record of this will allow you to have CVS access. Some reasons that patches will not be accepted is if the patch breaks compatibility with a previous version of the program, the patch is too centric to your own problem or the patch simply isn't very good.

Please, please please familiarize yourself with the documentation at:

Since no one wants to answer the same question twice.

Another sneaky reason for this mailing list is to test out the discussion list capabilities of Dada Mail, since Dada Mail is used for the mailing list itself.

NOTE - because of this, there may be times that this list will be somewhat broken. Although we're not planning on breaking the program by using it, we're giving you the heads up that this may well happen anyways.
