Mailing Speed

March 11th 2016 UTC

Does size matter? We just launched a new version of our daily news email on Tuesday. As usual, we are sending a web page. In the scheme of things, the size of the message went up from about 30 MB to 80 MB (more content). The impact is that our mailout time went from about 2 hours for a little over 10,000 subscribers to around 10 hours to complete. Nothing has changed other than the size of the file. So, are we seeing the drop-off in throughput due to a larger message being sent? We think this is probably the issue, but ...Continue Reading

When I first applied to Amazon SES I explained that I had a very small list (less than 1,000), what my newsletter hoped to accomplish, etc. Within a matter of days I received a reply that my initial limit had been raised to 50,000. Given that experience I don't know why you would have any problem. Re: Avoiding mass unsubscribes due to bouncing

March 2nd 2016 UTC

Sure, that would help, but I would rather have it much sooner. I run an mailing of 400.000+.If there is a spam issue after 10.000 or so. I would have to fix 390.000 afterwards :-( So something with a treshold (after x bounces) I get an message AND/OR at the end? Regards, EefVan: <dadadev@PROTECTED> namens "Mary Ann Kelley maryann@PROTECTED [Dada Mail Developers]" <dadadev@PROTECTED>Beantwoorden - Aan: Dada Mail Developers <dadadev@PROTECTED>Datum: woensdag 2 maart 2016 15:4 ...Continue Reading

I’ve been considering using Amazon SES for my main lists, but I was put off by their limits. Could someone help me understand how that works? I have a list of 34.5K subscribers, and don’t really understand how that works with their limits. Can I request a higher quota at activation so that I can send to that many addresses at once? If so, do they always grant it? If not, what happens when I meet the threshold in a mailing? Does it go back to my mail server sending them? Thanks, Eef. I have adjusted the thresholds so I do have more mailings before an unsubscribe happens, but I do want to process the bounces regularly. I thought an email summary after each mailing would be helpful to alert me when the IP is blocked. Re: Avoiding mass unsubscribes due to bouncing

When I have time, I'd like to comment more, but I think these are great ideas, and fairly low-hanging fruit for Dada Mail to achieve. The, "send tracker stats for email" is something that's already done in the "Mass Mailing Finished!" email notification these days, although I do see the appeal of getting sent the stats from a day/week/whatever later. It still does much of what you would like to see. Emails that are bounces by default are saved in the bouncing addresses sublists. You can search b ...Continue Reading

Re: Avoiding mass unsubscribes due to bouncing

Hello Mary Ann, I recognize the problem. I am running a 400.000 (and even plus) mailing. And sometimes the IP gets blocked. This is how I workaround it: 1. Set the bounce treshold much higher. Hard bounce is 4, so I have 3-4 mailings before a mailaddress is unsubscribed2. To set unsubscribed addresses back I interfere directly with the mysql database (the addresses are double there, so you only have to delete the address listed as unsubscribed) Play al little bit around there and you see what I mean.&nbs ...Continue Reading
