Howdy all, Along with the StopForumSpam service integration, I've had an itching to make the Membership >> View screen more useful. The first thing I've worked on, is making the list of addresses that have completed the first step of a subscription, but haven't confirmed their subscription (by clicking the confirmation link in the email you send) viewable. That's done! I'd also like to have an easy way to resend that confirmation from within the list control panel (or remove the address from the sublist ...Continue Reading

OK! Moving on, I've been tinkering with using this service: http://stopforumspam.com/ to try to put the kibosh on fake signups. My work can be seen here: https://github.com/justingit/dada-mail/tree/features-stop_forum_spam We'll see how it goes. If it shows promise, I'll release support for it in the next version of Dada Mail, ...Continue Reading

Hello everyone, v9.4.0 is out the door. This version includes rate limiting. You want rate limiting, and I'd suggest upgrading almost any install to this version. No kidding. * Download and Install: http://dadamailproject.com/support/documentation-9_4_0/install_dada_mail.pod.html Rate Limiting We've enabled a Rate Limiting in Dada Mail! This is a safeguard against perhaps nefarious attempts at attacking the Dada Mail when there are many requests done in a short space of time. Before v9.4.0, Dada Mail would happily ...Continue Reading

Hello everyone, v9.4.0 Beta 1 is out. Download and Install: http://dadamailproject.com/support/documentation-9_4_0-beta1/install_dada_mail.pod.html (Pro Dada versions are available) This version has the new Rate Limiting feature built in. Seems to work really well! Now that it's a part of the app, seems a little naked to run without it. Rate Limiting is currently enabled by default, and also has settings that can be customized in the installer. I'd love to get some more real-world feedback in seeing if the featu ...Continue Reading

No, no assets, Dada Mail hasn't served its own images, etc in quite a few versions now ;) What it does count is specific functions, so requesting a subscription through the subscrip ...Continue Reading

Ten requests in a minute should definitely be enough - as long as it isn't counting assets, only main page access. My only currently running Dada instance is 5.1.1 and it looks like that does load the assets through the cgi.Rather than rate limiting, maybe something like what MailChimp does could work. They have a hidden field on the form that a bot would be likely to try to fill in, but a real person would never see. If there is anything in the field, the submission is rejected. <!-- real people should ...Continue Reading

I'm getting a lot of reports of people having their Dada Mail installs slammed with requests on subscription forms, basically from bots trying to do… something with the form (probably badly informed). One option to stop this is putting a CAPTCHA on this form, which I'm slightly opposed to, since it adds yet another step between a person who's not subscribed to your list, and one that is. Rather, I've been experimenting with rate limiting, so only a number of requests are allowed in a certain amount of time. Luckily ...Continue Reading
