*Remove the border styling from/ all/ input types.* If we remove all border rules from the input{} rule set,/ all/ <input> types -- checkboxes, radio buttons, and text fields alike -- will be displayed using their browser defaults. My vote for this solution, because: - browser defaults are what visitors are used to see on the browser they use every day. - it is important that basic internet interface elements stay the same to build and keep trust - input fields would anyway always have a border won't they? - bo ...Continue Reading

[dadadev] Re: IE 5/Mac Template Breakage/body{} q's See, I told you we were close! :-) And since I've now slept on it, I'm thinking that the solution in my testfixC might be the best (cleanest and easiest to understand) over all.... But first: For those of you who missed it, here's Manfred's latest screenshot: Manfred wrote: > The effect I meant was...that distance A (marked in RED at the right) above the heading line is wider than distance B. In case, that is the correct behaviour, we are ...Continue Reading

Sorry Shane I needed some sleep in between :-) So here are the MSIE/Mac 5.1.7 Mac OS9 results. As far as the header is concerned, all three Template Breakage/body{} fixes http://a-ok.net/dadadev/2.10b1-floatclearing_testfixA.html, testfixB.html, testfixC.html work fine in MSIE/Mac 5.1.7, Mozilla 1.2.1 and in Opera 6.03 as well --> http://www.hobbysommer.net/web/testfix.html so as for the header, it looks like you found a solution and can probably use the preferred testfixB version. By "bigger", do you m ...Continue Reading

> Sheesh -- you guys are looking at pretty subtle differences. As Manfred discovered, my last round of problems certainly weren't subtle in OS9! [dadadev] Re: IE 5/Mac Template Breakage/body{} q's Well, I should have known that the "overflow:hidden" float-clearing trick that folks were raving about at: http://www.sitepoint.com/blogs/2005/02/26/simple-clearing-of-floats/ and: http://annevankesteren.nl/2005/03/clearing-floats was too good to be true. If the Tantek box model hack has taught me anything, it's that CSS cross-browser hacks must look really ugly and intimidating, and be difficult to understand. <sigh> That said: Manfred, I'm ...Continue Reading

http://a-ok.net/dadadev/2.10b1-IE5Mac_positioning_fixA.html ok here comes the Mac OS9 section: strange results... the above looks good in MSIE 5.17 in any MacOS, centered as desired but the box around ".: Dada Mail :: Sign Up for a List :: " is bigger than it should be. --> http://www.hobbysommer.net/web/msie5.1.7_macOS9.png Mozilla 1.2.1 (highest available version for Mac OS9) omits the header text completely !! --> http://www.hobbysommer.net/web/moz1.2.1_macOS9.png Opera 6.03 (highest availa ...Continue Reading

And while we're on the topic of header content, I thought I'd better ask a second time in case anyone missed it the first: Right now, the header texts look something like: .: Dada Mail :: Sign Up for a List :: Justin and I would like to move the decorative/presentational dots in those texts from the HTML templates into the stylesheet, so they don't get in the way of future alternative stylesheet layouts or designs. But doing so will mean that IE, which doesn't understand the CSS2 :before and :after sele ...Continue Reading
