Re: Cloning Email Lists

Hi Justin, Thanks for the info about the Config.pm defaults. That sounds exactly like what I would use to create new lists with he settings the way I want my new lists to look. Sorry for being obtuse but I don't see any $LIST_SETUP_DEFAULTS variable or $LIST_SETUP_INCLUDE in my Config.pm, nor are they mentioned in any file in my entire Dadamail installation nor are they mentioned in the Config_pm.html manual. Where can I find out how to use these variables? Carl ----- Original Message ----- From: To: " ...Continue Reading

The default list settings are saved in the Config.pm file in the variable, $LIST_SETUP_DEFAULTS. You can either change them there, or, in the $LIST_SETUP_INCLUDE variable, either right in the Config.pm file, or, in your outside config file (.dada_config). Pursue the docs for the Config.pm file for more information. The example .dada_config file that comes with Dada Mail already has the $LIST_SETUP_INCLUDE variable... included with some example key/value pairs, Justin > > Most of my email lists are all set up the ...Continue Reading

If you have your list configuration setup to use a database such as MySQL, you can use a query to make a copy of every record in the dada_settings table, substituting the existing list name with the new one on every record. Then you'll need to edit the two records that specify the short and long list names and that should do it (my Dada Mail Joomla component does this automatically). If you are using the default text files for your configuration, I am sure it is a similar process (maybe even easier) of copying s ...Continue Reading

Cloning Email Lists

August 16th 2008 UTC

Most of my email lists are all set up the same. When setting up a new list, is there any way to clone a previous list and all its settings? I am making the same changes over and over which makes me think there must be a simpler way. Carl ...Continue Reading

Step 1) Untar the dadamail tarball into your public_html/cgi-bin directory. It will create a subdirectory called dada within cgi-bin. dada has directories below it. Step 2) chmod 755 dada/mail.cgi Step 3) Using a browser, browse to cgi-bin/dada/mail.cgi. It should give you the dadamail web page, but it will say it is not configured. Consider that screen a proof of concept. Step 4) Configure as in the documentation, using either the "easy" changes to Config.pm, or the "advanced" method requir ...Continue Reading

First question: Are you trying to make a discussion list where each person can post, or are you just trying to make an email blaster, like to send out newsletters? Or are you trying to do something different from those two things? Re: HTML Email Fonts

August 15th 2008 UTC

Carl, Dada can't tell what font style you choose in the editor. The editor is a completely different program, the only interaction being that of passing the generated html text to Dada. You'll have to design around this problem. Perhaps come up with a neutral layout for the appended unsub message, explain it as a feature, ie the different style differentiates the functional aspect of that area of the message. Maybe that would keep your managers happy! I'd like to point out that I've used very expensive commercial ma ...Continue Reading

Hi Henry, I understand HTML, but putting a style=Arial in the email template only forces the template text to be different than what is created in the email body text. I am trying to make the text in both places the same. When you create the message text you can set any font you want when the FCKEditor addin is installed, but when the template appends the unsubscribe, etc text, I would prefer it keep the same font as was used in the body. It looks bad to have the fonts change and its also bad to force manager ...Continue Reading
