Re: New Feature Ideas for the Future: Private Mailing Lists

Justin,

I have been using Dada mail for a private email list since version 3.x. Other than the time that the mass uploading of addresses was disabled, it has worked well.

Things I would like:

An unsubscribe link that sent an email to the list owner instead of an automatic unsubscribe. It could be a form that asks for an explanation. This would allow the list owner to determine the reason for the unsubscribe and also to catch unsubscribe requests that were sent in error.

A link in the email to the subscriber's profile with the ability to edit the profile, including email addresses.

Integration with or a bridge to the databases used in CMS systems, like Joomla, WordPress, Drupal.

The ability to have different levels of access to the Admin page. Especially in a volunteer organization like mine, I could assign admin tasks to members and not allow them access to areas that might really muck things up. So, one group could access only the Mass Mailing section, another only the Membership section and so forth.

Thanks for your efforts.

Here's some ideas I've jotted down, to make Private Mailing Lists a reality - if this is a feature that could be of interest to you, please give me some feedback, before I plow into it ;)

Private Mailing List

Private Mailing List will differ from Public Mailing Lists in one big way: support for unsubscribing would be optional. Some use cases:

This sounds great to me, since out of the seven lists I maintain, three are what might be considered "private." If this project works out to be able to support both public and private lists with one instance of Dada Mail, then I expect that we would be willing to pony up a fee for the program. The ability to control who can/can't unsubscribe from a list, along with dropping the Unsubscription link from each message, would be key features. As I've said before in these discussions, we like Dada Mail because it can send a web page as the message (something other programs don't do). We also maintain "private" lists that are mandatory for employees and students to be subscribed to, so subscriptions are maintained and controlled by one administrator (me).
