Re: DADAmail suddenly stopped working

Create a subdomain (like "list.plgcsa.org") on the host's web site and an email address (like "list@PROTECTED").  Then set Dada Mail to log in to the local SMTP server as " list@PROTECTED ".  Once you have logged in, you should be able to use any address you want as the "From" address of the list, whether it is on the domain or the subdomain.

According to http://www.kitterman.com/spf/validate.html?, plgcsa.org currently has no spf record.

If you want to create one, Google's instructions are here:  http://support.google.com/a/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=178723.

Then, if you create an SPF record, it should probably look something like this:
v=spf1 a mx a:list.plgcsa.org include:_spf.google.com ~all

That should allow sending mail from Google and from Dreamhost.

Hi Moshe,
Thanks for the tip. So you're using SMTP then and not sendmail.

What do you use for the login/pw then for SMTP?

In looking at DadaMail FAQ: http://dadamailproject.com/support/documentation-4_9_1/FAQ-email_sending.pod.html#dada_mail_and_google_apps_for_domains

It says that you can use local mail servers but you  can't use an email address that is managed by Google Apps (e.g. list owner email I'm assuming).

Also, when you created the SPF record, I just did that in Google Apps. Is that what you mean? I set up a SPF record for google_domainkey in Advanced Tools in Google Apps...What other SPF record might I need?

TIA.

Karen

You can still use your host's (Dreamhost?) servers to send mail.  Just make sure your SPF record allows it.

I have mail for two of my domains going through Google Apps but I send the emails using the local SMTP servers (LREHosting and Nearly Free Speech) with no problems.
