What I was wondering was if there was any reason that v4 would slow it down. I saw it wrote to a log that was recording all of the mail as it was being sent (can't find where it's stored), That list didn't show any errors, all 29+k went out smoothly, but I wondered if it took precious time to write to that log. I could do without it.

I don't think this is the source of the slowdown, as this log is being written anyways, just in a different place in v3. In v3, it was written in the usage log, in v4, each mailing has its own log for the mass mailing specifically and when you're finished with the mailing, it gets removed.

I've been using Dada for several years now and and occasionally clean up and delete some of the old logs. They're no longer relevant. I did find however, that the ,tmp folder contained 43,247 items that spot checking revealed that most were old. Is there any reason not to delete everything in this folder? The cache folder, within the .tmp folder did contain some more current items. Can I delete this, too?

Wow. That's a heck of a lot of things and I would wager it could slow Dada Mail down, as Dada Mail will scan that directory for the mass mailings going out. Having to scan through thousands of entries is very much measurably slower than scanning through just a few.

Everything in that .tmp file should be available to be removed - except, perhaps, for your mass mailings that are still going out - they'll be in their own directories inside the .tmp directory. If you remove those, your mass mailings will def. stop.

There are no mailings going out now or until tomorrow so I'll delete them all.  What about the Cache folder within the tmp folder?  A couple of those items are related to the last sending, which is now complete.

I'm not sure if I can really explain the slowdown - as I recall, you don't even use the batch sending feature, correct? You just try to send as fast as possible?

You are correct. I send them all at once.  With a list of 29k, faster is better.

Another oddity.  When inside the admin screen, if I click the "Manage List > Sending Options" link, I get the "Sign up for a list" screen, even though the link in the browser window says
