Re: Request for Comments: Moderation System

I'm confused about "Randomly pick 5 subscribers to moderate" comment. Why? That doesn't sound too useful. Other than that, I think it looks OK. I use moderation very little in it's present state, but it is sometimes useful.

What about an option to send an email back to the sender notifying them that their message has been received, and will be sent once approved? That would avoid people complaining 30 seconds after they sent it that their message didn't get sent to the list. Just a thought.

Hello all,

I know that some people were surprised at the change in the moderation system. Honestly, I had no idea how many people were using the old moderation system - I don't get as much feedback on Dada Mail that I would like, so it's sort of like feeling my way in the dark when it comes to features and what I should add/work on/remove.

So, I'm probably going to give the moderation system a good changing - it's currently not as useful as I wish it was.

Currently, it looks like this:

The problem with the current is people were relying on the "Moderation List" to be able to send a message to basically an announcement list, from an email address other than the list owner.

So, something like that feature should be put back in, as well as some other things. Here's what I propose:

In this configuration, a message can be moderated by the list owner, the separate, "moderation" list, and/or by part of the mailing list itself.

There's also an option to accept messages that aren't from people actually subscribed to the list. I know some people would like to use the discussion list sort of as a way for many people to send to just a few people  - sort of like a *really* complicated aliased email address that points to a bunch of people.

The, "Allow moderator list to send messages to the entire list" option should basically do what the initial moderation system did.

Any thoughts? Anything missing? Anything too complicated?

Cheers,
