Justin,

Is there a way to avoid autoresponder messages being send to all members of a discussionlist ?

Hi, Alfred

I'm afraid you can't avoid that altogether your first step (probably you already did that) is to put a different address for "List Owner" and "List Administrator" in [Manage List]=>[Change List Information]

That way, "correct" bounces would reach the list administrator and not the list itself

The problem is that autoresponders usually "reply to" a message, so you are pretty much f***'d about this

What's more, there are (totally broken or misconfigured) mail servers (or anti-spam/anti-virus server or client software) that generate bounces to the "from" or "reply-to" address (instead of the envelope address, as the standards mandate) The envelope sender is what you put in "List Administrator" and, for a mailing list, it's usually best put to a special address that only the administrator read (such as list-owner@example com)

AFAIK, with current standards, an autoresponder would hit the list and this is hardly avoidable (not a dadamail specific problem, but mostly smtp/rfc822 + what most mailing software developers think is right)

You might want to study the trafic in your lists and maybe you could filter out some messages based on their content as they "seem to be" an autoresponder but this is dificult and error-prone

Regards
