Hello everyone,
I'm working on trying to make subscriptions easier for people to integrate into their website. Subscription forms have been getting a little unwieldy, what with profile fields, captchas, consents, etc. My idea is to have a simple-as-can-be (which is still filled with bells/whistles) subscription form available for someone to then use as they see fit.
So, if they want to just link to the screen that has it, they can - like this:
https://dadamailproject.com/cgi-bin/dada/mail.cgi/modal_subscribe_landing/dada_announce
But you could also just use one of the many many dozens of modal window solutions and put that screen's URL in there. Here would be the code to do this:
<html>
<head>
<link href="https://dadamailproject.com/dada_mail_support_files/static/css/vendor/lity/lity.min.css" rel="stylesheet">
<script src="https://dadamailproject.com/dada_mail_support_files/static/javascripts/vendor/jquery-2.2.4.min.js"></script>
<script src="https://dadamailproject.com/dada_mail_support_files/static/javascripts/vendor/lity/lity.min.js"></script>
</head>
<body>
<a href="https://dadamailproject.com/cgi-bin/dada/mail.cgi/modal_subscribe_landing/dada_announce" data-lity>Click Me</a>
</body>
</html>
This is using Lity:
https://github.com/jsor/lity
I wanted to try it out, as it doesn't need much additional code, doesn't require jquery, and seems easy to integrate Dada Mail's own subscription form in it. And if you flub it up by not adding the lity javascript library in your html correctly, the link just goes to the screen which has the subscription form in it.
There's no reason I couldn't use color box, which Dada Mail uses for its own modal windows, or something else similar. You can see it in action on any page on the https://dadamailproject.com site - just look for the "Subscribe" button on the top banner.
Thoughts on putting the subscription form in a modal window, rather than having the subscription form on a page of your site that then opens up a modal window with the results of the form submission? I can see why both would come in handy. I'm not campaigning to replace one with the other, but have both available.
