I’ve been considering using Amazon SES for my main lists, but I was put off by their limits. Could someone help me understand how that works? I have a list of 34.5K subscribers, and don’t really understand how that works with their limits. Can I request a higher quota at activation so that I can send to that many addresses at once? If so, do they always grant it? If not, what happens when I meet the threshold in a mailing? Does it go back to my mail server sending them?

If you're looking for alternatives, I do highly suggest Amazon SES. It has a good API, and an SMTP gateway if you just want to go that route. The setup isn't hard, but there's a few steps to get things working super-duper well. I'll have to polish up the current docs and perhaps make a screencast about it. I also plan on getting sending speeds much faster by utilizing multi-process mass mailing. If that's sounds appealing ;)
