Are you sure it wasn't a change in the program between 2 x and 3 x? A LOT of things were changed There's an FAQ to do what you'd like:

Thanks for the other reports though, I'll try to do my own research with what you've reported,
IMHO DADAmail should not be used for classic mail list operations
Sounds like a challenge! :) The "tags get parsed" is a problem we've been talking about quite a bit on this very mailing list, actually I don't like it, as it could impose a security threat and it sure does stop us from talking about a lot of things about Dada Mail, while using Dada Mail, but this list may be very unique with that problem,
