Sometimes I like to add features, when I get annoyed enough to get the
job done to get them put in, but before I actually know what I need to
do to make it all happen
I drew up (yes, with paper and pencil) an
idea to get the mass mailings to stick more closely to what everyone
probably perceives how the batch settings work: If I say I want 1
message to go out every 8 seconds, what I mean is that I want 450
messages to go out in an hour
In reality, this isn't how it works
Dada Mail will send that one
message, what 8 seconds and send another
The actual sending of the
message can take some time - say one, two or even three seconds
So,
what you may actually be doing, is sending a message every 11 seconds,
which is a much slower pace than what you need to be sending at -
around 327 messages/hour
I was trying to figure out an easy solution to all of this - but all
my ideas mean having to keep track of the last hour of batches - when
they started, how long they took and how many messages went out, in an
attempt to make a good guess at the average speed
This means saving
this information somewhere, and that means some overhead and overhead
means slowing down the mass sending process and that makes no sense if
all this stuff is to make sending be more on target
And then I was in the shower and thought, "Hey, why don't I just keep
track of the time sending one batch takes and the subtract that time
from the time we're supposed to sleep until the next batch"
And so, I did that
And it works pretty well
So the next snapshot,
will have that all enabled for people to try out
