Hello Everyone,
Sorry about the test emails - I was testing out the new email header encoding features of Dada Mail.
As been brought to my attention by a lot of people, Dada Mail does not support mime encoded words. Here's a background of the what the heck that is:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MIME#Encoded-Word
So, I've been working hard on getting that in. It took a long while for me to wrap my head around the problem. The big difficulty is with Dada Mail's complexity:
not only do we have to send out messages that have this encoded-word stuff (which is easy), the email message also has to be in some sort of format the templating system will work with for mail merging, the archive engine can work with for displaying, and everything else works with messages coming from various sources - like Dada Bridge and still Do The Right Thing - etc, etc, etc - and I also didn't want this new functionality to bloat the entire program and make things harder than they already are.
But now, I think we're pretty close in getting that to happen correctly.
I've made a snapshot of Dada Mail with Mime Encoded-Word support, you can grab it here:
http://downloads.sourceforge.net/mojomail/dada-3_1_0pre_snapshot-10_19_08.tar.gz?use_mirror=
(or)
http://downloads.sourceforge.net/mojomail/dada-3_1_0pre_snapshot-10_19_08.zip?use_mirror=
Install/Upgrade directions are the same as previous versions.
To enable to feature, log into your list and go to:
Manage List -> Sending Options -> Advanced
And check the option,
[ ] Encode Message Headers
I also usually set the character set to be, 'utf-8' in the popup menu entitled:
Default Character Set of Mailings
and things should work out, for the most part.
Along with this feature, I added some more tests to make sure things are working correctly. A lot of the tests are using calls to the Dada Bridge plugin directly, which is interesting in of itself. To make these tests work correctly, I had to figure out a way to directly inject a message into Dada Bridge's mail system without sending a message, having Dada Bridge check a POP server, etc.
Now, that's all in place and we're pretty close in getting Dada Bridge to successfully and *safely* accept messages directly piped to it, which should help performance of the plugin - especially for discussion lists, since you don't have to wait for the cron job to fire for the message to start being processed.
This snapshot also has some misc. bug fixes for some of the POP3 login bugs and POP-before-SMTP authentication. I don't really suggest using POP-before-SMTP authentication, as it seems to really slow down sending. I just popped up a new, "hack" on getting Dada Mail to send a Whole Lot Faster:
http://dadamailproject.com/support/boards/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=515
Worth a look, if you haven't seen it.
Please give the new snapshot a try and let me know how it fares. Below is the bug fixes made between the last snapshot and this:
