Multiple Fields Update #5 - Testing Suite

From: "Dada Mail" <dada@PROTECTED>
Date: October 25th 2007

I've started with the testing suite for the features currently
implemented

Currently, there's about 300+ tests, just dealing with the new
functionality and about 800+ (or whatever the number is) of tests
that already exist Every time I make a distro of Dada Mail, the
tests are run and I can see if anything broke This is a big boon for
me

The multiple fields feature is so embarrassingly late, people always
ask, "why has it taken so long"? There's a whole bunch of reasons,
the main main reason is that I had no way to do Quality Assurance on
such a feature, since it had a one-two punch of: it touches and
changes a whole lot of code and creates a whole lot more of
functionality

How do you know all this stuff works, except to manually try out
everything? - Which, by the way, is basically what I was doing,
before the testing suite The answer is, "I don't know"

So, that's a big reason, there's some other Big Reasons - for
example, I don't even think Dada Mail had outside templates when I
originally set out to make this feature This leads to things like
Spaghetti code, which was getting to be a problem in Dada (not that
it isn't now )

Anyways, the next step for the testing suite is to have Dada Mail
distributed differently - if you're a Unix nerd, you may be much much
more comfortable downloading a distribution and running the three
commands:

make

make test

make install

I'm hoping to package Dada Mail in this way, so you can run tests for
Dada Mail pretty darn easily, without actually installing Dada Mail
and hopefully, get some more feedback on any bugs/problems

So that's on the horizon Here's what I'll be using to do that:
