Andreas, here's my 2 Cents on your 2 Cents ;)

  • Don't mix languages Joomla is php, Dada is Perl I have had a hard time finding a hosting provider here in France who had a recent Perl installation Most concentrate /and optimize their systems/ for php You'll lose if you face any problem with Perl Better find either a Perl based CMS or a php driven mailing list Both exist

That's a horrible position to be in where a hosting provider would
have one language available, but not the other, but I don't know how
prevalent it is in other countries Perl's been something that's been
available as a hosting feature for what seems forever

Not really my point ;) my point being, if there was some sort of
communication between the two apps, it would be using a programming- neutral way, like using SOAP or another XML derivative, or something
more low-level, like working with the SQL tables directly If
Joomla's, Drupals, etc SQL structure for their users is simple
enough, I can basically tie Dada Mail into that somehow - the only
hurtle would be how to sync Dada Mail's day-to-day usage (like
unsubscribing), with this outside source I have my ideas :)

  • A big CMS, or Blog or whatever, also carries the risk that too many people discover Dada and swamp Justin with questions and problems This is a question which only he has to answer: Will he be able to handle a hundred of new, Perl-innocent, Dada users who are used to point and click ?

The more people who use Dada Mail, the stronger Dada Mail would be
The more people that ask questions that get answered, the more
knowledge of the program there will be, the more problems found, the
more start of bugs that can be documented and fixed Will I alone be
able to handle a gigantic upswing in the popularity of Dada Mail?
Certainly not - but hopefully, an upsurge of popularity would also
bring with fanatics that'll write about Dada Mail, their experiences,
how they solved problems they faced, ect and will document it, by
writing articles by themselves on their own websites, etc Would be a
dream come true ;)

It was only yesterday that I discovered some marvelous open-source software written by a single guy I contacted him for some reason and he asked me not to talk to other people about the software, because he would not be able to handle this Structures need to grow and develop organically

True for their position perhaps, but I do make a (rather meager
smile), "living" off of Dada Mail, so more users does equate to
more customers for me The best kind of customer is the kind that
asks for a feature to be implemented That feature usually finds
itself in the next release of Dada Mail, for everyone, for free
That's the kind of growth that's good for Dada Mail, it's community
and me ;)

The only thing that would potentially be bad if Dada Mail had a
popular 15 minutes of fame, is a security issue would be found that
wasn't seen before, because no one really cared and a potential
problem to many people would have to be dealt with I haven't had a
confirmed security issue that would allow someone access to the list
control panel yet, but if someone found one and exploited it, it
would be a couple of sleepless nights :)
