It would be - I agree - it also would be a good side project, but for someone else :) I could see a SOAP or JSON interface created in about a days time (any takers to hire me?) - the Perl code would be pretty simple I have too many (side, as in done for free) projects re: Dada Mail as it is :)
As a workaround (cough hack), you could try using the SQL backend and then just querying it directly "am I subscribed or not" query would be:
SELECT email FROM dada_subscribers WHERE status = 1 AND email ='whatever@it-is com';
v true, and its something that I already do on some sites
Its not always possible to have access to the database however with scary apps like Joomla I prefer to keep mail servers, and dada, well away from them
