Re: Problem about "Messages not removed from POP3 server" almost solved?!

But I do get the following warning now when dada_bridge is activated:

Dada Mail 2 9 10 alpha 1- 08/16/05 warning! Could not create, '/home/[cut]/archives/1125297077'- File exists at //DADA/App/GenericDBFile/Backup pm line 36

The same warning shows up when I delete 2 or more messages from the
archive by using the archive menu But this happens before too I believe
Something to worry about?

Well, here's probably the nuts and bolts of it:

Every time a message is added/edited/deleted when you use the DB (not
the SQL) backend, Dada Mail will make a backup of your messages
previous The backup format is one file per message Deleting two or
more messages at a time, or archiving more than one message at a time
will run the Backup stuff more than once a second

The backups work by creating a directory that all the messages are
stored, whose name is based on the time - so the program will be
trying to make a directory that already exists!

So, as a workaround, it would behoove us to do the following:

  • On adding/editing/removing archived messages, do not do a backup
    until all add/edits/deletions are completed

Not too hard and we'd probably get a small performance increase too

Doing so may also help out with the problem of why deleting 100
messages at a time doesn't work

You may want to test this idea out by setting the backup history to,
"0", thus taking that out of the equation In the Config pm file:

[snip]

=head2 %BACKUP_HISTORY

%BACKUP_HISTORY sets how many different revisions of various list files are saved

=cut

%BACKUP_HISTORY = (

 settings => 0,
 archives => 0,

) unless keys %BACKUP_HISTORY;

[/snip]

If setting these values to, "0" clears up the deleting-more-than-one- archived-message problem, or the, "add-more-than-one-archived- message" problem than we're on to something and I can issue a pretty
easy fix Maybe This seems to be a very old problem, as this post
from 2001 on a similar problem illustrates:

org/index
pl?node_id=55450

Me thinks it may be time to create some sort of test suite for Dada
Mail - I'm not too excited about that - perhaps Mark wants to :)
