Having Problems installing Dada Mail?

Sendmail working but no test email joy

Postby russlipton » Wed May 12, 2010 9:46 am

Jason,

I gave up on Dadamail (sob) due to install problems with shared accelerator on Joyent, having used earlier versions successfully. I appreciated your efforts to help at that time.

I immediately tried again this morning with 4.0.5.

Happily, I can now use sendmail, both with or without the -f flag (e.g., 'save then test your mailing preferences'' routes the test email as expected).

I can also use SMTP/SSL with or without SASL enabled.

Awesome!

However, sending a test email from the test list always tells me that 'message sending seems to have stopped', apparently on the first effort to reload the batch (of one email).

Any thoughts?

(.... former Pro subscriber who will probably want to become a 'forever' fan of Dadmail if I can get the danged thing working ....).

Sounds like an error - what does the error log say?

Assume you mean errors.txt in the logs folder? It's empty.

The dada.txt file shows (repeatedly):

[Wed May 12 21:15:44 2010] (domain) (ip) Restarting List Sending Internal ID: 20100512211425.76147318_at_(domain)

I'm talking about the file you've set in, $PROGRAM_ERROR_LOG - if that variable is set correctly, it should point to the location of the error log. You shouldn't have to (and really, shouldn't) create this file yourself.

It's suspicious that there's absolutely nothing in it. I would remove the file, make sure the directory gives enough permissions for a new file to be written in there and try a test mailing again. If the file doesn't regenerate itself, something's up path-wise or permission wise. If the file does regenerate itself, but without any errors, color me surprised - even on completely successful runs, warnings are logged in that file.

Justin ... sorry, was buried and distracted. I did have a log file regenerated and this is the report (with path stuff xxxxxed).

What say ye?

[Sun May 23 06:05:21 2010] mail.cgi: can't flock '/xxxxx/xxxxx/xxxxxx/.dada_files/.tmp/sendout-xxxxxxx-list-20100523060520.82832955_at_xxxxxxxxx.com/pid.txt' because: Bad file number at /DADA/Mail/MailOut.pm line 813
[Sun May 23 06:06:26 2010] mail.cgi: Reloading message... at /DADA/Mail/MailOut.pm line 1692

Then the message recycles until the mailing pauses.

It' s probably a Solaris issue - try just commenting out that line (it may do wonders)

Code: Select all
   flock( $pid_fh, LOCK_SH )
           or croak "can't flock '$file' because: $!";

That should be line 813 an 814

Works a treat!

.... I note that testing/sending mail in a 'new window' works but the opened window is blank. Anything that can be done about that?

I do get a mailing complete message if I remain within the mail composition window.
