How do I...

Post-upgrade issues

Postby davert » Tue May 29, 2012 8:45 am

Going from 4.x to 5.03, I have found:

1) I cannot shut off CAPTCHA though it's off in the config file, off in the preferences, and off in the MySQL settings (everywhere it appears in the database).

2) I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get rid of the DadaMail logo in the header. I paid for Pro and would like to customize this but web inspectors show a false location... and I can't find the original.

3) Password/cookie issues are going to drive me crazy, can each list get its own login cookie at some point?

Overall, this install was much messier than in the past. I admit I have a different file location, but I'd think that would be par for the course given the security issues. (I chose "Upgrade" and used the unzipper program.)

There's a lot of places where CAPTCHA may be used. Can you give an example of one of the places where you're having trouble? For the most part - I think with the Profile registration, all CAPTCHA is disabled, by default.

The image itself is in,

dada/DADA/Template/templates/img/dada_mail_logo.png

The manual, which you do get with Pro Dada, does go into detail on how to change the global template, so you can make Dada Mail look however you'd like. You can also change the layout per-mailing list, if you'd like.

3) Password/cookie issues are going to drive me crazy, can each list get its own login cookie at some point?

How are password/cookie issues driving you crazy? I'm not sure what your second question is asking, but I don't know if it's going to be possible to be able to be logged into more than one list, from the same browser. Usually, if I want to switch quickly between lists, I'll log into a list using the Dada Mail Root Pass, and then use the widget on the upper right to switch to a different list, etc.

You're kidding, right? :)

I admit I have a different file location, but I'd think that would be par for the course given the security issues. (I chose "Upgrade" and used the unzipper program.)

What security issue are you talking about?

Sorry about the delay before reply.

The security issue... isn't anything wrong with the program, just that with something as important and attractive to hackers as a list of email addresses, I prefer to change the default file paths. As far as I can tell, though, DADA uses files from the dada directory regardless, at this time.

The CAPTCHA problem I could not get around... is now gone. Inexplicably, without any other changes on my part. I'm wondering about browser cache issues now. The cookie issues of trying to get from one list to another (after logging out of the first list!) were cured when I started using Firefox's "clear last hour's history" feature.

I wonder if the logo issue is the same, I'd found that file and changed it to no avail, but I'm thinking maybe a "hard refresh" didn't do the trick after all. ... and that turns out to be it.

So I owe you some apologies. It seems I should be working in privacy mode to avoid cookies from interfering... and I also owe you thanks for keeping this program up to date for so long. Too many other promising packages fall apart over the course of time, or suddenly (phpwebsite, Menalto Gallery for example) change direction and codebase...

No problem - I hope you have great luck with Dada Mail.

Some of these problems may have stem from Dada Mail's own screen cache, if it's not cleared out, you'll see the cached screens, before you see another content re-created. That means any config changes you make won't take effect, unless you clear out the screen cache.

Thanks, that would correspond with my experiences ... how do I clear out the screen cache within DadaMail?

* The Dada Mail Installer will delete the cache, during an upgrade

* Remove the directory, .dada_files/.tmp/_screen_cache

* The, Screen Cache plugin allows you to view your cache, and delete it in part, or the entire cache. I think it can also be run on a schedule, to periodically remove your screen cache.

Thanks, I've had loads of related issues over time, including the system telling me I'm entering the wrong password, then I have to log out of another list before I can log into the same list, etc., then suddenly it works... and now I know why.

Is there a way to completely disable this cache? Or can I suggest that as an option for future versions?

Add,

Code: Select all
$SCREEN_CACHE = 2;

in your .dada_config file.

I did find and change this yet the header is still reflecting the original logo.

I double checked the image and it is changed. Is there anything new in the latest upgrade?

Thanks.

It must have been cached. After I logged out and logged back in, it was gone. Sorry for the noise.
