Mailbag: "STOP dada directory already exists"

How do I...

Mailbag: "STOP dada directory already exists"

Postby justin » Fri Sep 17, 2010 8:28 pm

1) about 2 months ago it became impossible to send myself a test message...
it doesn't matter which ctrl or alt or shift or no key I hold... nothing happens...

2) at about same time the sending of messages to a list would no longer continue from the moment I went offline... this used to always work... and auto pickup is supposedly enabled and set to 755...

3) I thought to upgrade to prodada 4.2.0 and tried that but really can't understand the installation instructions... I did get the message "STOP dada directory already exists" when I visited the cgi-bin with my browser but can't figure out what to do beyond that and I can't risk losing the functionality I already have...

many thanks,

How exactly are you sending a message? I'm not sure why any of the modifer keys would do anything in regard to Dada Mail, to be honest.

2) at about same time the sending of messages to a list would no longer continue from the moment I went offline... this used to always work... and auto pickup is supposedly enabled and set to 755...

"Supposedly" is I guess the term to look over - is the cronjob set? Can you visit the auto_pickup.pl script in your web browser? Is it doing what its supposed to?

3) I thought to upgrade to prodada 4.2.0 and tried that but really can't understand the installation instructions... You'll get the, "STOP" message, if there's already a, "dada" directory in your cgi-bin. If you look over the upgrade instructions:

http://dadamailproject.com/support/docu ... l.pod.html

Step #1 is to move that directory.

You may have to do a few more steps, if you are running such an old version. Under the, "Before We Get Started" it links to this doc:

http://dadamailproject.com/support/docu ... n.pod.html

which you may have to do.
