What's New? (Changelog)

Unsubscription Process: Vastly Simplified

The unsubscription process for Dada Mail has been redesigned, and has been vastly simplified.

All mass mailings require an unsubscription link to be present in the message itself. This unsubscription link is now unique to the list, mass mailing and subscriber it's sent to.

Clicking the unsubscription link will bring the subscriber to a screen, with a simple form, which only requires that they fill out their email address. An optional email address hint can be shown, to help subscribers know which email address of they're subscribed with. Once a subscriber has filled out their email address and submitted the form, they will be unsubscribed immediately.

This unsubscription link will be removed in discussion lists, so replies will not potentially re-send the unsubscription link of a subscriber, to the entire mailing list. Unsubscription links will also be removed from archive messages.

To make the unsubscription process as simple and fool-proof as possible, many of the advanced options that were available in the mailing list's control panel have been removed. This was done to make 100% sure that users of Dada Mail were following email best practices, as well as following the newest revision of the CAN SPAM 2008 revision.

Unsubscriptions are now tracked, and data can be viewed/exported in the Tracker plugin. The date of the unsubscription, IP address, subscriber email address, mass mailing the unsubscription was made from, and the mailing list name will be saved.

Tracker Plugin

Tracker Preferences: Simplified

Tracker preferences have been simplified, to make sure as much data is collected by default. You may now track clickthroughs automatically, or manually; track message opens directly or indirectly and track with or without your email data.

Faster!

Work has been done to make the index of mass mailings data and graph render faster. Expect speedups of 2x-5x.

Opens: Total + Unique Reported

Message Opens are now reported as both the total amount of opens recorded per message, as well as unique opens per message/subscriber. The percentage of unique opens/total subscribers is also shown.

Subscriber Activity

Message data is now reported by subscriber, as well as by IP/location/Over Time. Activities such as message opens, clickthroughs, unsubscribes and bounces are shown per-subscriber in chronological order. Subscribers are sorted from most active to least active, allowing you to easily see who your busiest members are, and what they're doing.

Unsubscribes

Subscriber Unsubscribes are now logged in Dada Mail and reported by the Tracker plugin. a seperate tab in the message Tracker shows a list of all unsubscriptions; data is also broken down by domain name, and graphed over time.

Total Recipients Logged

Dada Mail has the ability to only send a mass mailing to part of a mailing list, but up until now, only logged the total subscriber count. Now, Dada Mail will log both the total subscriber count, plus the total count of recipients that are sent the message. This will help Tracker message reports to be more precise.

csv Export Email Lists: Soft/Hard Bounces, Unsubscribes, Email Activity

Tracker supports csv exporting email addresses for soft/hard bounces, unsubscribers, and email activity, for each message.

Partial Sending Options Expanded

Partial List Sending has now been expanded to allow you to search both with what could be in your list (equal, like), as well as what may not be in your list (not equal to, unlike).

You may now search for more than one term, per field, at one time - example: a First Name of either Justin, OR John. This is done by simply listing the various search terms you'd like, separated by a comma. For example, First Name is Like Justin,John

Dada Mail v6.1.0

Dada Mail v6.1.0 contains pretty important enhancements to Dada Mail's subscription/removal confirmation system. It's suggested that anyone running Dada Mail upgrade to this new version to take advantage of these changes. We've written up a little bit more about the problem people have been reported, and what we've done as a solution.

We've focused our attention on WYSIWYG editors:

Author your HTML email messages in rich text, right from within the List Control Panel.

Dada Mail now comes bundled with three different WYSIWYG editors to choose from: CKEditor, Tiny MCE and FCKeditor. KCfinder, an image/file browser/uploader, is also bundled. Dragging and Dropping images right into the editor window is also supported.

All these utilities can be installed easily using the included Dada Mail Installer. No need to download, configure, and install anything extra.

We've streamlined the Send a Message and Send a Webpage screens to better utilize and more cleanly present these editors, while still allowing you full flexibility on how you author your messages: We've moved to a tabbed interface for the mailing list message, so that you can easily toggle between your HTML Version and your PlainText version, without unnecessary scrolling. Much work has been done to Dada Mail Profiles to make them more flexible towards customization, as well as making it easier for List Owners to administrate individual user's Profile information.

List Invitations: Already Been Invited Check

List Invitations are a powerful tool in Dada Mail, as they allow you to invite a new member to join your mailing list, and thus allow potential new members to make their own decision on whether they would like to join your mailing list.

Before a List Invitation is sent, Dada Mail can now double-check to see if any invitees have already been sent a list invitation, saving you from pestering potential members. This new feature is optional and can be configured to simply warn you about previous invites, allowing you to re-invite selected addresses, or disallow to send to any previous invited addresses. By default, Dada Mail will warn about previous invites, but won't disallow you from inviting them, again.

New Plugin: Change List Shortname

Each Dada Mail mailing list has a, List Shortname - the internal name used by Dada Mail to differentiate mailing lists from one another. The list shortname is also used for values in subscription forms and subscripiton/unsubscription/confirmation links. Sometimes it's desired to change this list shortname.

New Plugin: Password Protect Directories

This plugin allows you to password protect a directory, only allowing your mailing list subscribers access, using their subscription to your mailing list and their Dada Mail Profile password as credentials. A default password may be set, if a subscriber does not currently have a Dada Mail Profile.

New Plugin: Default Mass Mailing Messages

Having default copy available, in the PlainText and/or HTML Versions of your mailing list messages, ready to be used as a starter for your next mailing list message would be convenient.

Big News! Justin, the designer/developer/support-guy/ring-leader/conceptual artist of Dada Mail is challenging the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route yet again in June, racing from Canada to Mexico (over 2700 miles!) on a single speed bicycle.

What's New?

This release has a big bundle of bug fixes - around two dozen! since the 4.7.0 release.
The Dada Bridge plugin also gets some tender loving care. Bridge-specific email messages can now be edited on a per-list basis within the list control panel
