PERL Upgrade Errors

I use MacPorts to keep things up to date on the server that Dada Mail runs on (a Macintosh running 10.10). I have mail.cgi pointing to the /opt/local/

When I did an update the other day, I received a couple of messages from list subscribers who were having problems opening email messages. I checked the error log and it had a number of lines like these:

\C is deprecated in regex; marked by <-- HERE in m/(\C <-- HERE )/ at /Library/WebServer/Documents/vtnews/DADA/perllib/URI/Escape.pm line 205, <CONFIG> line 1.

Use of uninitialized value $error[0] in join or string at /opt/local/lib/perl5/5.22/Carp.pm line 489, <CONFIG> line 1. at /Library/WebServer/Documents/vtnews/DADA/App.pm line 11935.

I figured the problem resulted from the MacPorts update I had just run, which put in place perl5@PROTECTED_1+perl5_22 I was able to deactivate that version and drop back to perl5@PROTECTED_0+perl5_1 and all was well.

Since I'm not deep into Perl, I don't know what changed, why, or where, but for the time being I will not be updating Perl. Just a heads up that the system might break due to Perl updates.
